Our Philosophy
We believe that the process of making, not its outcome or aesthetics, is the hidden treasure enabling lasting growth & change.
We believe that working with a range of mediums and modalities – such as visual arts, music, drama and dance – moves us into a potent dialogue of possibilities, meanings and new beginnings.
We believe that art can take what is raw, painful and in pieces, and transform it into something which is precious, sublime and whole.
Our Values
-
We show up with tenderness, care, and in the spirit of togetherness. We bring our humanity to this work and our sensitivity in responding to experiences of hurt, pain and suffering.
-
We are committed to walking the talk, making decisions and taking action from a place of honesty, sincerity and authenticity. We go all in to support others, and know to only make promises we can keep.
-
We listen, not just with an open mind, but an open heart. This helps us to remain attuned to the possibilities of our clients’ lived experiencing and what they might need. Our attuned presence deepens our capacity to respond intuitively and insightfully in ways that uniquely speak to each client, and each present moment.
-
We seek to empower our clients by working together to creatively nurture their sense of resilience, agency and inner strength. We facilitate art-making opportunities that balance the safety of structure with the spontaneity of freedom, supporting clients to make choices and find their authentic voices.
-
Quick explanations and fast strategies seem promising for alleviating painful experiences, but they are often band-aid fixes masking the real root of the problem. For this reason, our approach to wellbeing is not explanatory, but collaborative and truly client (rather than expert) centred.
While we can provide practical resources and our knowledge base along the way, ultimately, sustainable wellbeing is about supporting clients to figure out their own truth and what works for them. We believe strategies are more effective when they are personally tailored, rather than general or one-size-fits-all approaches.
-
We are committed to continuous learning and professional development to meet the evolving needs of our clients. We stay up-to-date with the latest research, techniques and best practices in the field, attend training opportunities, and seek ongoing professional supervision.
We also engage in our own regular, reflexive arts practice as part of our duty of care to clients, dedicating personal time outside every session to ground, reflect and integrate our experiences and learnings.
-
No artistic ability or creative experience is necessary to participate in our services. Anyone can benefit from art therapy, and we continuously strive to create safe, inclusive and non-judgemental experiences where all can feel welcome and valued.
We stand in solidarity with First Nations, BIPOC, LGBTQIA+, neurodiverse, and other marginalised communities.
